I have a large mp3 collection, and I need to edit the tags in a certain way, but it's a near impossible task to do by hand. Here's what I needed to do: I need a way to change the artist tag on an mp3 to the name of whatever folder it is in, and i need to do this as a batch process for about 800 folders containing roughly 3000 mp3's. Any ideas? | |

I use this program which is also FREE, it's called Mp3 Tag Tools. And you can pretty much do anything you want with ID3 tags v.1.1 and v.2.x. It says in your question that the folder containing the music is named with the artist, Mp3 Tag Tools can scan every file in the folder and rename the tag accordingly to the artist's name of that particular folder. Mp3 Tag Tools: http://massid3lib.sourceforge.net/ If your music folders contain whole albums, you can also try MediaMonkey which can retrieve CD information from Gracenote.com and can have it automatically rename the tags in the files. There is another program that is free, powerful, and can rename mp3 files in mass. It is a little difficult to learn how to use at first, but once you know it, its great. Its called The Godfather (seriously) and you can find free installs and user guides easily around the Net. |
