As I mentioned in my comment below, I have not found a good standalone
Italian-English electronic dictionary. However, there are BookMan
expansion cards with French-English and Italian-English dictionaries
on them. You cannot expect these cards to be quite as comprehensive as
a standalone product, but I believe they offer reasonable coverage. In
my own BookMan, which has the Merriam-Webster Collegiate built-in, I
use the German-English dictionary and King James Bible expansion
cards. Both are simple but useful.

Franklin: Italian-English BookMan card

To use the expansion cards, you would have to use a base model such as
the following.

As an alternative, you could invest in a low-end PDA and buy
downloadable translating dictionaries for it.

Is this an adequate answer to your question?

Franklin makes a French-English dictionary with definitions from
Larousse. I haven't used this particular model, but I have owned a
Franklin BookMan for several years and am very pleased with it.

They appears to have no similar product for Italian.
