I'd like to know which cruise lines offer traditional Poker on their cruise lines. This is not "house" games like Pai Gow, Blackjack, 3 card poker or any other game where you play against the house. I am talking about Texas Hold em, Omaha, 7 Card Stud and tournaments where you play against other players. In other words, games from the "Poker room" of a traditional casino. For tournaments, I want to know what the buy in and entry fee. I'd also like to know the length of the rounds, how many chips you start with, and what the blinds start at. Payout and details of the structure would be nice, but not necessary. For cash games, I want to know what the levels are (determined by amount of the blinds, $1/$2 NL Hold em, $2/$4 Limit Omaha, etc) for both limit games and No Limit Games - if offered. The number of tables dedicated/available for poker on particular ships in the cruise line would also be interesting. I only want this information for the following cruise lines: Royal Carribean, Carnival, and Norwegian Cruise Lines. Holland America is not required, but if found during other research, would be nice. |

I am taking a cruise soon, and found this information about Hold Em on ships: http://www.oceanplayers.com/news/article.asp?nid=7 You can contact the casino host of the ship and ask specifically. For example, on the Carnival Elation they have one limit table, $5/$10, no tournaments. There are also "poker cruises", you can contact a travel agent about that. Hope this helps. |

I can tell you the specifics about Carnival and Costa cruise lines - during my last few cruises, the majority of my time was spent in the casinos! The two cruiselines offer basically the same games: Blackjack, Progressive BJ, Roulette, Carribean Stud Poker, Progressive Caribbean Stud Poker, Three Card Poker, Craps, and your typical array of slot machines. The table games have min bets from 5 dollars and 2 dollars on roulette/6 dollars for 1:1 odds. They also offered blackjack tournaments, slot tournaments. The also had a raffle every night - but the only way to get a raffle ticket was to hit BJ with 5 cards or more, spin the BJ progressive wheel, or other special actions, etc... Outside of the casinos onboard the ships (I was on Carnival's PRIDE and Costa's MEDITERANNEA), they also have various CASH games like Bingo and Horseracing. A few fellow passengers and my boyfriends and I were really interested in playing some Texas Hold 'Em, but since they don't offer it we still played in the "card room" where they host bridge games. We just got twenty bucks in quarters from the casino and then played our own tournament style game in the poker room. I'm sure you can find some more info on their websites: http://carnival.com/ http://www.costacruise.com/B2C/USA/Default.htm Carnival offers a Players Club program/card for slot players... Coasta does not. |

First of all, thank you for trying to help. But the information on "house banked games" is readily available on several sites. I am not even remotely interested in these kinds of gambling games. I was told that several cruise lines are now offering Texas Hold Em on their ships. Sometimes, it's just 1 table, but sometimes, it's an entire ship of poker games (player against player). I don't care about any ability to gamble other than what you would find inside the "card room" of a casino. This includes Texas Hold Em, Omaha, Stud, and similar games played against other players. The other games are not able to be beat consistently, so they don't have any appeal. |

spacecadet59 - thanks. I found that link earlier as well (and it's the most useful information I found after a day or two of searching), but it's not the level of detail of information I'm looking for (refer to my original post for the specifics). The only reason I am willing to pay $20 is because I don't want to scour the internet anymore and gather this information. So, whoever wants to be paid for this answer, you need to gather the specific information asked in the original question. You will have to call each of the cruise lines mentioned and talk to the casino operator or find it online somewhere - which nobody else can seem to do. |

I was on Carnival Fantasy three weeks ago and played $1 - $2 limit the first night. The next night we played $2 -$4 limit. The next night we played $5 - $10 limit. Limit was the only game the offered even when everyone at the table wanted to play no limit. Limits were set by players taking a vote. No tourney play was on the Fantasy. They had two tables and were only able to fill 1 at a time. According to the dealers this was due to the large number of Senior trips going on at that time. I just found this link that might be helpful. http://www.playerscruise.com/ |
