Hi, I am writing a speech for a friend of mine and really need help on
the grammar portion of it. I only had about an hour to work on it and
as you will see I don't think it is very good but I am sort of rushed
as she has to give the speech in 3 hours.

If you could help by correcting the speech as far as grammar wise and
any other help you can give me would be helpful. I would really be
thankful. I am not that pickly and will rate you 5-stars and give a
tip.

I really just need the text corrected (you could put the correction in
brackets in you like) and posted as soon as posible as I have to have
it to her in about two hours. Feel free to add anything or change
anything you think is not needed or needs to be changed.

The Princeton dictionary defines a hero as a person being of great
strength and courage celebrated for bold exploits, but is that truly
what the word hero really means? I believe in three types of heroes.
The hero who saves someone from danger or is someone that gives up his
or her life so another could live. The hero who sees a need and
moves toward meeting it, even in the face of real sacrifice. Someone
who believes in a just cause and will not give up and fight or die for
that cause. And the hero who is there to help others and gives them
strength to go on through life?s difficulties.
An example of a hero who puts his or her life in danger to help
others is a firefighter, police officer or solider. The US Army
soldier?s job is to defend our country, everyday they are fighting for
our values and our way of life. So many of them have died on the
battlefield, and wither we believe in the war they are fighting we
cannot deny ?????Firefighters and policemen put their life on the line
everyday so that others may live. Like the firefighters that risked
their lives by entering the world trade center. They entered the
collapsing towers without hesitations, and with haste. They had the
courage, will, and moral duty that pushed them forward in the
direction of the people that needed help. They did it not because it
was their job but because the people inside needed their help. They
chose to act and it cost them their lives and for that, they are and
will always be remembered as true heroes.
Another example of a hero to me is someone who makes an impact in
a person?s life. A hero does not always have to be strong or always
courageous, he or she can be be a hero through his or her other
actions. A hero can be a teacher, a school counselor or a parent. They
can teach you, care, and lookout for you and can make a huge
difference in your life. When you have a problem theses are the people
that you know you can always go to for guidance and help. Even as a
young boy I can remember waking from a nightmare and being able to
calm down knowing that I was safe because my dad was in the next room.
Without my parents I would not be here today. They had to courage to
raise a big family of nine brothers and sisters and they will always
be my heroes for it. These people are the heroes that are overlooked
everyday and don?t get the recognition and gratitude they deserve.
A hero can be a person that stands up for a just and noble cause.
Martin Luther King Jr. is a hero because he took a stand against
powerful people when no one else would. Although doubted and
threatened he never gave up his fight for civil rights. He stood up
for what he believed in and was killed because of it. Mahatma Gandhi
is a hero because of his advocacy of nonviolent mass protest and civil
disobedience. He saw nonviolence as the most effective way of
achieving social change and has instructed freedom movements, even
after his death, all over the world. These are heroes who not just
saved a life but helped create a better place for us all to live.
A hero doesn?t have to be strong, posing great physical strength
or even be always courageous. A hero has to be a person that when the
time comes they follow that moral obligation, stepping up to the
plate, making that sacrifice, and willing to put others before their
pride and own self interests. A hero can be a person that is willing
to risk themselves to save a life, willing to fight and even die for a
cause, and even just simply being a good teacher or parent that make a
difference in a persons life.We can only hope that one day we also
will step up to the plate and become that hero, willing to make a
sacrifice, willing to stand up for what we believe in and change a
person?s life for the better. Only then can we hope to be worthy to be
called true heroes.
