People who smoke and say they do not inhale generally mean that they
do not "intentionally" inhale. By virtue of taking the smoke (and it's
microscopic particles) into the mouth or holding a lit cigarette (or
whatever) near the face, it is virtually impossible not to inhale some
of the residue even if the inhalation is merely vapors from latent
particles trapped on the surface of the tongue and palate or second
hand smoke from the business end of the cigarette.

Please let me know if this answers your question.

No it does not. My question was basically if it is possible to draw
smoke into the mouth without at the same time opening up the
passageway to the lungs allowing smoke to also enter the lungs or does
that possibility violate the very physics of smoking. I am having an
argument with someone whether it's possible to not inhale. He argued
everyone does it. The smoke remains in your mouth and doesn't enter
you lungs (or atmost a negligible amount). I argued that the only way
to draw in air is by expanding your diaphragm and letting air rush
into the vacuum (the entire cavity from mouth through lungs. Being
that it is though more than a miniscule amount will enter the lungs
even if you stop breathing in in middle.

Benzaq--

The action is the same as slurping up a single strand of spaghetti, or
a mouthful of milkshake. Great, now I'm hungry.

It is quite obvious that you are not a smoker AND NEVER SHOULD BE but
as an ex-smoker for a good 25 years I can assure that you certainly
can light a good cigar, just draw in a mouthful of delicious smoke and
let it dance on your tongue for a moment before reluctantly letting it
escape.

Dammit, now I want a milkshake and my pipe!

markvmd,

If you ever decide to revisit the Dark Side,
I recommend Gurkha Cognac Infused Torpedo cigars.

Oh, yeah...and a Ben & Jerry's Chunky Monkey milkshake
with a shot of Peppermint Schnapps.

Is this a great country or what?!!
