How do I figure out what type of life insurance I need.
Term- Whole life; and all the different kinds of each.

I am just starting out,24 years old, making 40+ and am engaged, with
very nice house, and a very small mortage of about 25%.  NO kids, yet,
and getting married next year.  Someone told me about variable whole
life insurance, because of the withdrawals that are able to be made
later in life, and that on average returns I will take out much more
than I put it.  What questions should I ask them about this type of
insurance policy, and is it the right decision based on my broad
details laid out above?  Thank you for your help

Insurance is insurance. Like if you die somebody gets some money.

Investment is investment. Like you build a pot.
