I will be taking a trip to Ireland in March, and plan on doing some
Geocaching while there. If you are unfamiliar with Geocaching it works
like this;
1. You go to a website and download coordinates for a hidden "cache"(I
use www.geocaching.com). Once you have the coordinates you can load
them into a hand held GPS receiver, and try to find it.
2. The coordinates will take you to a "cache" that someone has hidden somewhere.
3. Inside the "cache", will be (at a minmum), a log book, for you to
log your visit. Sometimes the "cache" will contain little
knick-knacks, like Pez dispensers, coins, playing cards, etc. If you
want to take something out of the cache, you need to put something
back into it. (i.e. you take a Pez dispenser and leave a rubber doggy
chew toy).
It's basically a high tech treasure hunt.
Which now brings me to my question. I would like to bring some
trinkets, knick-knacks, or other type of thing to Ireland to use as
trade items. I would like them to be uniquely American. What small
items would you recommend that would be recognized by my Irish counter
parts as "American"? I've thought of Minature Football Helmets with
team logos, G.W. Bush Bobble heads, etc.
I guess what I'm looking for is; something small that, Europeans would
immediatley associate with the States. The item(s) should be
relatively inexpensive ($5.00 or less).
Any and all suggestions welcome! Answer will be awarded to the
GA-Researcher that comes up with the best idea. If a non-GA-Researcher
gives the best answer, all I can offer is, "When you die, on your
deathbed, you will receive total consciousness." So you got that goin'
for you, which is nice.
