I'm brainstorming for names for my new consulting company. "Alteon"
is short, sweet kind of name I'm looking for. I got it from the name
Nortel used to use for some of its network switches. But I don't know
what it actually means. I've plugged it into some Greek and latin
dictionaries with no success. Does anyone know if this really is a
word from another language and what it means?...or maybe Nortel just
made it up? Thanks.

Howdy helmut4960-ga,

It appears that the word Alteon was possibly used originally in conjunction
with a test kit used for analyzing diabetes medication, by a company named,
quite aptly, Alteon, Inc.

As this was in conjunction with a trademark, and as trademarks usually have
the meaning of a word, if there is one from another language, and as there
is no translation presented with the trademark record, I strongly suspect
that it is a made up word.

If you would accept the above as an answer, I could be more than happy to
post it as such, along with the research strategy used, etc.

Please be aware that there are other companies using Alteon as a trademark,
so depending on your field of consulting, it might not be a good idea to
use Alteon for your company name.

Looking Forward, denco-ga - Google Answers Researcher
