Where is it that Marcel Proust, in speaking about writing / art, said (or wrote) that it has the power to bring into being "a person called 'I' who is not necessarily oneself"? (I read the quote in a Hilary Mantel NYT review of the novel Mr. Mee but need the original source.) |

Are you sure it was Proust, and does not come of "Mr Mee" itself (by Andrew Crumey). This is possibly indicated by the review of the novel at http://mypaper.pchome.com.tw/news/soq/3/1237165641/20040406182542/ which also mentions Proust, but not as the actual author of this quotation. Have another look at the Hilary Mantel review. |
