Do AWD vehicles consume a lot more gas than 4WD? meaning that 4WD you can put on only when you need like snow, etc. and AWD is all the time. I would like to know opinions of professionals. |

I took a peek at http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/byclass.htm (those would be the 'experts' and there doesnt seem to be a consistent answer...the gearing is going to have more to do with this than whether is is 2 4 or AWD. Some AWD on the list have the same mpg as 2WD of the same model. In other cases they have worse mpg than 4WD and some better. |
