Question ID: 438578
I need to find a supplier of an elongated "D" shape connector that
connects a hard drive to a hard drive caddy and then to the
motherboard. These connectors are available somewhere, I just don't
know where to search or exactly what they are called or who would
produce the connector. Look at http://www.tgris.com/1/parts.html for
pictures of the connector I need. Please email another further
information that is required. This is from a hard drive caddie from an
orphaned laptop, the TELOS Metrobook II, these caddies are hard to
find and expensive when found, a ebay seller has found a source for
these connectors and is selling them on ebay at an inflated price for
a homemade caddie. I can build my own if I can find the connectors.

I need to be more specific, I went to the digikey site and I don't
have the technical knowledge to find the part based on their
descriptions and they have no illustrations or pictures (i could find)
to help me find the part. Can someone find the part number or give me
more detail as to how to find these connectors. Thanks

You say ?D? shaped?

The first appears to be a twin row 0.1 inch pitch 44 way pin header
socket. Do you want surface mount? 44 way is an unusual size but you
can cut down a longer one or fabricate from two smaller ones. I can?t
see from the photo if there are polarising keys or bumps. Are there
any markings which would identify the manufacturer -- though it looks
like a generic style.

The second one appears to be a twin row, 40 way edge connector, a
standard size but it looks like it has been cut down from a longer
one. What?s the pitch?

What country are you in ? -- well probably the States -- so check out
Digikey and Radioshack. You should find something similar on their
sites. Post items you find and I can check them out too.

Will watch for updates.

The connector is too short to be a .1" pitch. It is a 2mm one. 44 pin
ones are carried by Digikey.

These appear to be generic, there are no markings, I can supply better
pictures or measurements if that would help.

You are absolutely correct alan7002 -- 3 in the morning carelessness
on my part. Thanks. If you are in the States you may be better placed
than I to recommend suppliers. Had a look at Radioshack and couldn?t
find anything useful so dump that dumb suggestion.

jdk007 There are pickies on Digikey but you have to know exactly what
you want so I suggest you download the ?connectors? part of their
catalogue :-

http://dkc1.digikey.com/us/pdf/Current.html

The catalogue seems to have exactly what you want, so do the download,
quote the part numbers, and come back to us and we should be able to
confirm. Better if you make initial choice because you?ve got the
connectors in hand and can measure and compare directly but looks like
S2201-22-ND or S2202-22-ND or S2205-22-ND and maybe others. Can?t be
sure about the second one because the pitch is important -- that?s the
distance between the centre line of each terminal to the next if you
don?t know the term.

If you want additional info too, I (or alan7002 I?m sure) will be pleased to help.
