First, you'll need to know the bylaws which govern your meeting. Roberts Rules of Order are the near-universal basis for meetings, and bylaws frequently incorporate them by reference. These were written in the 1800s and are surprisingly relevant today. A few versions are available in paperback books, and online. One thing to note is that these Rules include a phrase to the effect that when circumstances arise that are not explicitly covered in the Rules, commen sense should be used to arrive at a satisfactory procedure. These URLs are for Roberts Rules sections related to voting, and they always describe asking for "No" votes as well as "Yes" votes. http://www.robertsrules.org/rror-01.htm#9 http://www.robertsrules.org/rror-08.htm#46 This is a Google list of other websites related to Roberts Rules and voting. ://www.google.com/search?hs=rTF&hl=en&lr=&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-US%3Aofficial&q=%22roberts+rules%22+vote&btnG=Search |
