Hello again Google,
I baught an iBook G4 1.25 GHz about 10 months ago from Apple. When
I got the machine I noticed some things might have been wrong with it,
but reguarded them as normal specifications for the unit, like that's
the way it was made. I first realized there was a problem the next
week when I took it up to my cousins and the battery flopped out when
I was sitting on the couch. I didn't know what was going on. That was
just the beginning. A few months later I was talking with a Mac expert
and told him of my concerns with the machine. In essence he said that
they weren't suppost to be there and that it takes a screwdriver to
take out the battery screw, but with me it only takes 7 light taps.
Recently for Christmas I got some RAM; while putting it in the unit, I
noticed that the left switch to take the keyboard off was not spring
loaded. Then just a week after, as I was off to work, carrying my
iBook, the battery flopped out on to the tar and a tiny crack resulted
from the incident and also a scuff on the battery. I proceded to call
Apple, but I guess these manufacture defects are my fault and they
will not honor in doing something for me for the $300 Protection Plan
I baught. They say that it will cost me around $450 dollars to get the
machine fixed, which is practically half of what I payed it. This is
what is wrong with it: Loose battery, warp in lower portion of
keyboard, elevated left side of the tracpad, and the little switch to
take of the keyboard, the left one is not spring-loaded. The company
which I bought it from was Amazon and they cannot do anything either.
I have come to you google in asking for assistance. Are there any
other solutions which you guys could look for? I have already mapped
out one solution, buying my own parts and fixing it, but is there any
other thing that I can do?
Any help is appreciated.
Thank you very much.

Hi

I work at a campus computer store in Halifax, NS. We are authorized
Apple resellers and also have a warranty service location on campus.

Your iBook is clearly defective, and is eligible for Apple's warranty
service, especially since you purchased their extended coverage.

I would recommend finding the nearest Apple service center in your
area and bringing it to them to look at. You won't need your receipt
or anything, since all Apple service is done via serial number.

An Apple service agent will have a lot more leverage than the consumer
alone. Having them actually see the unit will help you along.

Hope this helps.

Mike
