Hello.
The phrase is credited to famous boxer Joe Louis.
On June 19, 1946, a reporter asked Louis about his upcoming match with
Billy Conn, Louis responded, "He can run, but he can't hide."
The phrase caught on and other variations (such as the "you" version)
emerged. In 1957, Louis turned his famous phrase into a song with the
title, "You Can Run, But You Can't Hide."

" Joe Louis' laconic style hid his wit. Before his 1946 rematch with
Billy Conn, when reporters asked him how he would deal with that
fighter's agility and quickness, Joe Louis coined his most famous
remark: "He can run but he can't hide."

'Last week, I was reminded of a comment made by arguably the greatest
heavyweight boxer of all time, Joe Louis, while talking about an
up-coming bout. "He can run, but he can't hide," the Brown Bomber
responded to a question about his opponent's agility in the ring.'

Interestingly, in 1957, Joe Louis even co-authored a song, "You Can
Run (But You Can't Hide)," which was recorded by Solomon Burke.
"Solomon Burke... recorded for the New York-based label from
1955-1958, and scored a minor hit with "You Can Run (But You Can't
Hide)," a song whose authorship was co-credited to Burke and boxer Joe
Louis."
