What are the major scientific article sources in Latin America? Latin
America and esp Brazil is coming up strong in terms of scientific
publications:
http://www.nsf.gov/sbe/srs/infbrief/nsf04336/start.htm.
I did some research myself and found the following sites:
www.cirurgiareparadora.com.br
www.sbai.org.br
www.bireme.br
www.cibersaude.com.br
www.fiocruz.br
www.fsp.usp.br
www.hcnet.usp.br
www.iuperj.br
www.rsbcancer.com.br
www.bioline.org.br
www.scielo.br
What are some of the other major Latin American scientific article
providers (journals, institutions etc) with native content (Spanish or
Portuguese)? I am interested in both paper and online sources, but esp
websites from Brazil, so I can access the articles. |

Hi!
What do you mean by major? I was able to find a list of scientific
journals for Brazil but they are paper sources only.
The site I found lists more than 100 titles. The site is an online
library that has some issues of these publkications available online
for free.
Would these be ok as an answer or do you want the rest of Latin America covered.
Thanks!

Sorry about the error, I meant publications and not "publkications".
I would also like to stress out that not all issues are available
online but only a limited number of them.

There is also a list of the following:
Chile - 40+ scientific journals
Cuba - 17 journals
Would these be enough?
Thanks!

Thanks for the quick response.
"What do you mean by major?"
A journal that has a large readership. An institution that has many
researchers. If I had to prioritize (1 being top preference)
1) websites like www.pubmed.com, with thousands of articles from different subjects
2) websites like highwire.stanford.edu, with hundreds of articles from
different subjects
3) websites like jama.com, on a specific subject
Brazil seems to have a good public university system. It would be
great to have specific URLs from the ~50 universities listing the
papers published there.
"Would these be ok as an answer or do you want the rest of Latin America covered."
I am interested in Brazil because that is where a lot of science is
being done but I really would love to have as much as possible of
Latin America. It would be great to see the relative importance of a
journal/website.
"I would also like to stress out that not all issues are available
online but only a limited number of them."
Most interested in websites -- it is where "major" publications
nowadays are and they are much easier to access. I guess at most 10%
of the list can be paper-only sources.

Hi!
It seems tha verifying subscription figures is hard for these types of
publications so I do not have a basis if they are major ones. So I am
leaving this open to other researchers so that they can take a crack
at it.
Thanks!

Okay, I will be happy with a list and the number of articles they
have. I am guessing that number should be much easier to find.
I have reduced the price to reflect the degree of depth I am expecting.
Thanks!

Hi!
Please bear in mind that the list will come from an online library and
not really from the journal's website. The library makes it possible
to make available the articles online but only for a limited number of
issues.
Finally the countries that will be coevered will be the following:
Brazil - 100+ scientific journals
Chile - 40+ scientific journals
Cuba - 17 scientific journals
Will these be enough as an answer?
Thanks!
