George L. Engel, MD, an internist at the University of Rochester wrote about the "biopsychosocial" model in an article published in the prestigious journal "Science." Engel's work was first published in the 1950s and gained widespread attention in the 1960s. A biobehavioral model has influenced 'modern' health psychology and behavioral medicine, but in my opinion, no single person can lay claim to its 'invention' But I'll be interested to see what the Google mavens think! |
