Hi. I use Firefox 1.0 as my browser and Netscape 7.2 for my email
programs. I have WinXP Pro SP2 with a DHCP home network on a cable
internet connection.
If I receive an email that I read in Netscape 7.2 that has a web link
in it, my computer will launch the Netscape browser to view link, even
though I have Firefox configured as my default - this is the problem.
I want any and all links to open in Firefox. My question is this. Is
there a way that I set some preference that will accomplish this? I
have looked around and can't find anything. Is there a way to hack
the registry to do this? Or, is it possible to completely uninstall
the Netscape browser portion while still having full function usage of
the email component.
I consider myself very computer savy, so your answer can assume a
solid knowledge base and the ability to safely hack a registry. You
can also move quickly through your answer, not slowing down to baby
steps, as necessary in other answers. Thanks in advance |

Oh, I had one other question. You know how in IE, you can right-click
in a webpage and choose 'Create shortcut on Desktop'? Is there a way
to do that on Firefox?

Hi heavylee,
Check to make sure Mozilla is set as your default here:
Start / Settings / Folder Options / File Types
* URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol
* URL:Protected HyperText Transfer Protocol
* URL:File Transfer Protocol
See this link for details:
Setting Firefox as Your Default Browser:

Does that help?

Hummer,
Thanks for your suggestions. I did have an entry for the file type
URL, and it was set to use some .DLL file. I re-associated it with
Firefox and HTTP, and I tried to add Protected HTTP as another
association to URL, but Windows would only let me have one entry in
the file types list for URL.
But even after I made that change, I clicked on a link within Netscape
email, and the Netscape browser still came up.
Thanks though.
