Hello, butchzorro-ga!
There are several organizations offering employment assistance to
senior citizens in the San Diego area. It is probably best to call the
agencies I have listed before your planned move so that you can
establish a working relationship with the recruiters and explain your
job skills. If you discuss your previous work history with them, they
will have a greater advantage when it comes to being on the lookout
for job vacancies that are tailored to your skills.
I suggest that you don't strictly limit your search to jobs listed
through employment agencies. There is a growing trend toward
recognizing the value of senior citizens in the work arena. Many
employers realize that older workers offer desirable qualities often
lacking in younger workers and they might be quite willing to hire you
if you take the initiative to approach them. Think about all the
skills you have acquired throughout the years, discern what types of
companies might offer jobs with those skills, and take the initiative
to apply. Not all of these companies will recruit through employment
agencies.

Before you get to the employment assistance organizations, take a look
at the following article which highlights several companies in the San
Diego area that are noted for hiring older employees:
Excerpt from "Older might be smarter - Some businesses see value of
experienced workers; jobs are there," By Michael Kinsman.
UNION-TRIBUNE STAFF WRITER. May 27, 2004
http://www.seniors4hire.org/articles/S4H-Media-SignonSanDiego%205%2027%2004.pdf
"When Susan Davis lost her job two years ago, she braced herself for
unemployment. "I knew for someone my age, the job market wasn't
great," said Davis, 64. "I knew a lot of people my age who couldn't
get jobs, and I kept hearing how bad the economy was. I was pretty
concerned."
"Davis surprised herself, though, finding a job almost immediately at
Directions In Research, a San Diego marketing research firm where more
than a quarter of the workers are 50 or older."
"Demand for older workers seems to be growing. Giant retailers such as
Home Depot, Sears, Roebuck and Co., Wal-Mart and Radio Shack are among
the companies that have aggressively moved to hire older employees in
recent years, and the unemployment rate of 4.8 percent for workers
ages 55 to 64 is the lowest for any age group in California."
"Online job boards such as Seniors4Hire.com and the California's
Employment Development Department Web site cater expressly to older
workers."

ADDITIONAL SUGGESTIONS
=======================
As I noted earlier, you should not limit yourself only to those
listings available at employment agencies.
For example, I found this recent listing on the San Diego area Craigs
List website. There is no reason you can't post an ad seeking
employment, rather than waiting for a job to pop up.
1/19/2006 - "Rancho Penasquitos based Computer Company seeks a
responsible Senior Citizen driver for day, evening, and week-end
driving for delivery and pick up service. This individual must be
extremely professional and courteous and customer service orientated.
Other traits include flexibility, promptness, reliability, and the
ability to keep strict confidentiality. Trips will generally be in the
San Diego area but may also include surrounding areas. Must have your
own car with insurance and good driving record.
Please forward your cover letter and resume to be considered for the
position. Someone will contact you should your qualifications meet the
requirements of the position.

you!

Although the date has passed for the following program, I would not
hesitate to call about similar programs which may be offered in the
future.
EMPLOYMENT - "SBC Foundation is funding a program called Oasis where
senior citizens can update technology skills for the workplace with
courses in word processing, job search skills, using e-mail and other
skills. Oasis is partnering with the San Diego Community Options
Senior Community Service Employment Program to offer technology
education for people 55 and older who meet certain income criteria."
Oasis will offer a preview of its courses today (Sept. 6) at 1:30 p.m.
at the Neighborhood House Association computer lab at 841 S. 41st St.
in San Diego. Registration for fall classes will begin Thursday (Sept.
8). Individuals can check class listings online at oasisnet.org or
call Oasis at (619) 574-0674.

The following article notes that additional training programs are
expected in early 2006. Since San Diego is one of the cities in the
program, perhaps you can take advantage of the next round if they are
available.
From "Not Ready to Retire? Get Free High-Tech Training to Stay Employed."
http://www.seniorjournal.com/NEWS/Retirement/5-09-28High-TechTraining.htm
".....More new classes planned for early 2006 will help people
consider their options for work and life and update their job- search
skills in order to take advantage of the many employment resources
available online and in the community....."

Since I don't know your previous work skills, I am including the
on-the-job training program through Goodwill Industries, which employs
Senior Citizens:
Goodwill Industries
http://www.sdgoodwill.org/history.shtml
Employees:
"In addition to physical or mental disabilities, the barriers our
participants face can be as simple as a lack of previous work
experience, limited or outdated work skills, housewives re-entering
the job market,.....senior citizens....and people with limited English
language skills. Almost one-quarter of the employees in our retail
stores are Goodwill On-the-Job or Supported Employment participants
who are paid while learning "on the job".

I hope the information I have compiled provides a start for your job
search. As the different agencies get to know you and your job skills,
some opportunities should surely open up for you.
Good luck!
