Question ID: 439891
I want to know, when one installs Qwest internet access (the MSN co
branded product) on a Windows computer, in the US:

1. To what does it set the homepage on Internet Explorer?
2. Does it install any toolbars?
3. What icons/links does it add on the desktop?
4. What links does it add to the start menu?
5. What links does it add to the Taskbar?
6. What favorites/links does it prepopulate?
7. Does it come with any browsers other than Internet Explorer (eg
Netscape, Firefox, an AOL-style client)
8. Does it install anything else?

Does it ask the user whether he wishes to set these, or does it just
go ahead and set them?

Thank you.

Hello -

Thank you for your question. If you need any additional
clarification, please don't hesitate to ask.

The Qwest/MSN CD installs "MSN Butterfly" as an alternative browser.
The core of this browser is actually Internet Explorer with additional
AOL-like functionality in the form of launchable sub-applications.
Examples include as calendar, money, photo, entertainment, security
filters, virus filters, etc.

1. To what does it set the homepage on Internet Explorer?

   Doesn't change it.

2. Does it install any toolbars?

No autonomous ones; however, there are toolbars within MSN Butterfly.

3. What icons/links does it add on the desktop?

MSN Butterfly main icon, and possibly installation icon

4. What links does it add to the start menu?

Nothing by default. Gives an option to add Butterfly.

5. What links does it add to the Taskbar?

MSN messenger icon. Possibly Butterfly (not consistent from
      computer to computer).

6. What favorites/links does it prepopulate?

   None.

7. Does it come with any browsers other than Internet Explorer (eg
   Netscape, Firefox, an AOL-style client)

   MSN Butterfly.

8. Does it install anything else?

   Nothing.
