My company has just installed an updated version of Windows
XP-Version5.1. When they installed this on our computers, they
disabled the ability for us to customize the wallpaper, so as to
adhere to "corporate standard."

I understand that there may be a way to change this in the registry so
that we can customize our wallpaper again.

I need VERY detailed step-by-step instructions to change this so we
can add back our custom wallpapers.

Thanks.

Please consider that you may be jeopardizing your job by doing this.
Is custom wallpaper worth that risk?

Try this one.
This points to a specific file to use for your wallpaper.
So you need to have the pic in the right place.
C:\\Windows\\FileName.bmp (Use Windows explorer to get there or something)
Save the text belowas a .reg file and double click it it`ll prompt you
to say yes to adding this registry key

;below

; Set wallpaper
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop]
"Wallpaper"="C:\\Windows\\FileName.bmp"
"WallpaperStyle"="0"
"TileWallpaper"="0"

While there are a lot of Anal companies out there ... i don`t think
customizing your P.C wallpaper is Job jepardizing... may depend on the
wallpaper i guess.

I've gotten it to display the image I want, but after a minute or 2,
it automatically reverts to no background. When I go into Control
Panel, the one it reverts to is "None". There must be some sort of
timer or something that periodically checks to see if it's one of the
approved wallpapers.

I've tried deleting an existing wallpaper, and naming mine the same
thing, but I get an acces is denied message when I try to
delete/rename the existing wallpaper.

Is there a way to stop the timer? Or maybe somehow have the "None"
wallpaper be my image. Or even somehow create a custom color that is
actually my image???

Hi,

There are 2 cases of your problem :

1)If your Desktop in office are logging into a Domain scenario, there
is no way out to chage the wall paper as the System Administrator of
your office must have defined the Group Policy to restrict it.

2) If your pc is not logging into a Domain the local policy is been
defined, you do the followings if you have the permission to change
your custom wall paper.

a)Open Local Policy of your system and doing:

User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Control Panel\Display
and Making it "Not Configured " status

Cheers!!!
Sanjay
