I've been using Outlook through a business Exchange server and when away Outlook web-mail which gives me exactly the Outlook interface and ALL it's features wia the web. I will soon no longer have access to the company server (I'm retiring) so I have to do something else. I MUST be able to transport several hundred Outlook Contacts and with lower priority Calander. I love using Word as the input for Outlook, especially the spell checker and formatting options. So, what is the besst approach to get as close to what I have as possible?? A few other points: I have other free web-based email accounts. Web access is essential to email...is there a web-based solution that can sync with my home system (XP Pro)? If necessary I could use a client program and have web access but without the two talking to each other...ugh! I use Mozilla. If necessary I guess Contacts and Calander could be seperate from the email client but that's less desirable. Outlook Express might seem an obvious choice but I don't think it's great and I've heard Microsoft will soon stop supporting it. So again, what's my best option??? |

frenchcancan-ga.... At about $150 per year, every year, I'm not interested in mailstreet. I've thought of using Outlook and assume there is no problem using it as a single client program (no Exchange server) but, frankly, I cannot figure out how to easily backup all the data, especially Contacts. I have a backup drive with software that automatically backs up everything but the .pst file. Furthermore, I am not convinced the .pst file even includes Contacts; I read someplace that it does not. With everything syncronized to an Exchange server run by a network guy there was no problem but I will soon be on my own. A simpler program with similar features to Outlook AND the ability to transprot Contacts to it would be better. |

If you want the same features you have now: Outlook and Outlook Web Interface, research Windows Small Business server. You'd be running Exchange yourself and have web access.... Jim http://www.PeakBackup.com |

Being an Exchange administrator, what we do frequently, is export the contents of a mailbox to a PST file, and in the event that the contacts do not go to that PST file, we create a folder in the PST file and specify that folder is for contacts. From there, you could simply copy all the contacts from your Exchange Message Store to your PST file you created. Then, when you are at home, you could run Outlook off of your PST file. Just a suggestion, and it won't even cost you anything, except the cost of Outlook, which you may already have. If you have any questions or comments to my comment, please let me know, this is right up my alley! Steve |
