i understand this is a hot topic that stirs up a lot of controversy but im willing to risk it to save someones life. if there are any compassionate people out there please help answer this question. I recently had to hire a young ilegal imigrant man from Hondurous to help me do repairs on my home. even though we have problems with the language barrier we have become good friends. I just found out that his mother has some emergency medical needs and i think he's been trying to tell me its colon cancer (definately colon related). if it is cancer she wont survive in hondrous. i dont make enough money for health insurance on myself but too much to qualify for county assistence. it has always iritated me that i pay property taxes that pay other peoples medical bills but not my own. now, here i am, trying to find some way to get Danilo's mother to America for this free county health care or possible free health care at M. D. Anderson in houston where one of her other sons live. if, through taxes, im going to pay other peoples medical expenses why not for someone that i have a personal connection too. i would even be willing to marry Danilo if that will save his mothers life. does anyone have any suggestions? please no hate mail. it wont help an ill woman. clementine |

I don't want to cast aspersions but if I were trying to bilk a nice American out of some money, this is exactly the sort of story I'd use. Please keep in mind that you have no proof that anything you are told is true save the earnest pleadings of an honest face. And the records are full of victims who described their con artist in exactly the same way. |

In order to be eligable for most welfare/assistance, you yourself must have some sot of legal standing in the US. Being a relative of a citizen won't do you much good. If you are an illegal alien, visitor etc, hostpitals must provide ermegant care, (read Emergency room) but do not have to provide non emergent care (which cancer treatement/drugs would entail). |

Hospitals are only required to stabilize, not provide any long term care. Besides, it sure looks like Danilo is trying to con you. There is cancer treatment in Honduras, and it's most likely that if she won't survive there, she won't survive here either unless she's got a lot of money. |

ditto to the other comments plus., you did not have to hire him. You make it sound like you did not have a choice. Get someone who speals Spainish so you make sure exactly what he is saying. |

You have to be very very careful who you invite into your house. Danilo is almost certainly trying to scam you. Don't be so gullible. You already broke the law by hiring an illegal immigrant (it is called "harboring an illegal alian" and you can go to jail for that. You are considering another illegal act - marrying an alien to try to get his mother into the country. This is called immigration fraud, and yes, you can go to jail for it. Even if you did marry Danilo and manage to eventually get him a green card, it would not help his mother into the US. And even if his mother did get to the US, she would not be eligible for expensive cancer treatment, since the US is not Canada. My advice - get as far away from Danilo as you can and never hire any more strangers. |
