Hello Blucken,

From Agriculture and Agrifood Canada:

Soyoil

?Over the past decade, the production of soyoil has increased by 60%.
Although the US remains the largest producer of soyoil, output
increased by only 20% since 1994- 95, despite a 25% increase in the
supply of raw soybeans during that period. Similarly, the production
of soyoil remained stagnant in the EU-25 at around 2.5 Mt, annually.
The major growth in soyoil production occurred in China, Brazil and
Argentina which increased the official soyoil output by 450%, 50% and
by over 300%, to 5.2 Mt, 5.7 Mt and 4.7 Mt, respectively.?

Soyoil Growth

?The expansion of the world soyoil sector is forecast to continue but
at a slower pace. The production and consumption of soyoil is forecast
to rise by about 8% over the medium term. The rate of growth will be
affected by how fast the Brazilian soybean sector expands with another
90 million hectares reportedly available for seeding, expansion will
be limited by economic and infrastructure constraints. Recent events
suggest that the rate of expansion will decrease for 2005-06 because
of low market prices for soybeans in combination with higher input
costs.?

Palm oil growth

?The expansion in world palm oil production is forecast to continue at
a slower pace over the medium term as planting of new trees is slowed
by low veg-oil prices. Output is forecast to rise by 10% by 2014-15.?

Canola/Rapeoils

Canola/rape oil: Premium-priced and focused on health and biofuel
?Since 1994-95, world production of canola/rape oil has increased by
about 50% on steady growth. The largest increase occurred in China
where output rose by 80% to about 4.5 Mt expected for 2004-05. Smaller
increases occurred in the EU-25 and Canada where production increased
by about 25% respectively. Production of canola/rapeoil in India and
Japan remained stable or decreased slightly."

Canola/Rapeoils Growth

?World production of canola/rapeoils is projected to increase
marginally over the medium term. ?

Veg-oils Outlook

?Over the medium to long run, the market for veg-oils is projected to
grow as incomes rise in Asia and more land is seeded to soybeans in
South America and to palm oil in Indonesia. The world veg-oil sector
is forecast to become more competitive at the same time it becomes
more concentrated.?

(?)

?The veg-oil market is expected to continue to expand in the emerging
economy countries while remaining relatively stable in fully
industrialized countries. As the market matures, the focus for price
discovery will increasingly switch to Asia and South America. The
industrial concentration is expected to increase although there is
some concern that processing capacity is overbuilt, forcing a possible
rationalization of the crushing sector over the medium term. World
trade in veg-oils is expected to grow over the medium term and may
soon surpass world trade in wheat, by value.?

(?)

The next decade

?Over the next decade, world markets for vegetable oils are expected
to grow while the industry continues to consolidate in an increasingly
competitive environment, according to analysis conducted by Rabobank.
The major factors include the continued shifts in the production of
veg-oils, the growth of the Asian economies, consumer concerns,
changing power relationships along the food value chain and the
development of non-food markets.?

Industrial markets

?The market for biodiesel continues to grow and will be determined to
a large extent by government incentives, tax exemptions, petroleum
prices and in some cases by regulations for mandatory inclusion. The
market for biodiesel is growing the fastest in the EU where biodiesel
consumption could rise to 4-6 Mt by 2010. Brazil has also expressed
interest in implementing an extensive biodiesel program while
countries like Thailand, Malaysia and India have launched plans or
programs to develop the biodiesel sector based primarily on palm oil.?

Jatropha
========

?In Africa, India, Asia and the Americas, Jatropha is one of the most
promising feedstocks in what is becoming a worldwide biofuel bonanza.
Europeans are planting and investing in Jatropha fields in all these
places and elsewhere. One company in the U.K., D1 Oils based in
London, has built a portable Jatropha biodiesel refinery.?

Ecoworld

---------------------------

D1 Oils

?D1 Oils, which has formed a joint venture with Mohan Breweries and
distilleries, has begun large-scale jatropha cultivation in Tamil
Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Chattisgarh. The company plans to have five
million hectares of land under jatropha cultivation and to produce 2.7
metric tons of oil per hectare within five years. Earlier this year,
D1 announced a partnership with Labland Biotech, a Mysore-based plant
biotech firm, to produce some 100 million tissue culture-derived
Jatropha plants.?

Bio Spectrum: November 11, 2005

---------------------------

Production and Growth

?D1 Oils plc (?D1 Oils?), the UK based low cost producer of biodiesel,
today announces the acceleration of its targets for the planting of
Jatropha in India by its joint venture company, D1 Mohan Bio Oils
Limited (?D1 Mohan?). D1 Oils also announces new third party off take
agreements in India for the supply of crude Jatropha oil through to
2015.?

?The main points are as follows:

a twenty fold increase in the targeted planting of Jatropha in India
during the course of 2005;

reconfirmation of the medium term target to plant a total of 5 million hectares;

farmers to purchase seedlings and planting materials from D1 Mohan
through local bank financing, providing D1 Mohan with additional
revenue and enabling a more rapid expansion due to lower working
capital requirements;

D1 Oils option to export up to 25 percent of the oil produced by D1 Mohan;

Additional Jatropha oil supply contracts for export, independent of D1
Mohan, totaling 10,000 tonnes per annum in 2006, rising to 50,000
tonnes per annum by 2009.?

?The new targets agreed by D1 Mohan are for the planting of 100,000
hectares of Jatropha in India in 2005. This is a significant increase
over the 5,000 hectares estimate used at the time of D1 Oils?
admission to AIM last year. Given this increase, D1 and its joint
venture partner will monitor closely the progress made throughout the
year paying particular attention to the availability of quality
planting seed. Once mature, this initial planting should yield
approximately 250,000 to 300,000 tonnes of crude Jatropha oil per
annum. D1 Mohan has also reaffirmed its medium term objective of
planting 5 million hectares of Jatropha.?

D1 Oils

---------------------------

?D1 is aiming at a 20-fold increase in the targeted planting of
jatropha in India in 2005, with a medium term to plant on 5 million
hectares, and option to export up to 25 per cent of the oil produced,
said sources.
Additional jatropha oil supply contracts have been signed for exports
totaling 10,000 tons in 2006, rising to 50,000 tons annually by 2009?

Iran Daily
http://www.iran-daily.com/1383/2236/html/energy.htm

---------------------------

?Jatropha shrubs can deliver 1,600 to 3,000 liters of biodiesel per
hectare, depending on irrigation conditions and the number of shrubs
planted per hectare. In the United Kingdom, D1 Oils has already seen
success from exploiting Jatropha oil to make biodiesel; the company
has seen its shares double to more than 330 pence since listing on the
London stock market last October.?
Iran Daily
http://www.iran-daily.com/1384/2364/html/energy.htm

---------------------------

Jatropha can yield up to two tons of biodiesel fuel per year per hectare.

?Jatropha can yield about 1,000 barrels of oil per year per square
mile. In such quantities, Jatropha, like biofuels in general, cannot
become a replacement for oil. But Jatropha requires minimal inputs,
stablizes or even reverses desertification, and has use for a variety
of products after the biofuel is extracted. Moreover, diesel fuel with
biodiesel additives causes far less pollution.?

BP to Fund Indian Biodiesel Production Study

?BP will fund a $9.4 million project by The Energy and Resources
Institute (TERI) in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh to demonstrate
the feasibility of producing biodiesel from Jatropha Curcas, a
non-edible oil bearing crop.?

?The project, which is expected to take 10 years, will cultivate
around 8,000 hectares of land currently designated as wasteland with
Jatropha and install all the equipment necessary?seed crushing, oil
extraction and processing?to produce 9 million liters (2.4 million
gallons) of biodiesel per year.?

Green Car Congress: February 02, 2006
http://www.greencarcongress.com/india/

---------------------------

?The most promising biodiesel oil feedstock is Jatropha Curcas - a
shrub / bush which grows on marginal land not in competition for food
crops or replacing forests.

In the next 10 years Jatropha Curcas will become the major biodiesel
oil feedstock other than soybeans and canola (_apeseed oil). The
entire country of India and many countries in Africa have chosen
Jatropha Curcas as their future for biofuels.?

East Timor

East Timorese farmers have been contracted to grow jatropha curcas
trees, to supply the vegetable oil plant in Cairabela.

?The raw oil will be exported to the refinery in Darwin or Asia, or
sold on the open market.

The deal was signed between East Timorese company Daba Loqui Energy,
which will contract farmers and help run the oil-extraction plant, and
MPI's development arm, Enviroenergy Developments Australia.?

(?)

?The plantations have started physically, and it will take three years
for them to be under full production, so effectively there will be
about 25 per cent (oil-extraction) capacity in 18 months, and then 50
per cent in the second year and 100 per cent in the third year. The
biodiesel production will effectively be about 12 months behind that."

Indonesia

?In Indonesia in October, the heads of six major energy companies
gathered with the governor of the central bank, a dozen cabinet
ministers and representatives of universities and local development
organisations to sign a declaration supporting government plans to
produce jatropha oil on a large scale.?

?According to the plan, by 2009 Indonesia will have 10 mm hectares of
jatropha plantations, each hectare yielding enough oil to produce
1,000 litres of biodiesel a year.?

Jatropha in Ghana

?The European Union (EU) has set a target of using 10.5 bn litres of
biodiesel by 2010 -- double what Europe itself s projected to be able
to supply. The 2001 Study of the European Biodiesel Market by
international consultancy firm Frost & Sullivan says the EU market for
biodiesel could be worth $ 2.4 bn by 2007?

India

?The Indian government's Vision 2020 document says that cultivating 10
mm hectares with jatropha would generate 7.5 mm tons of fuel a year,
creating year-round jobs for 5 mm people.?

Malawi

?Jatropha trees are already widely grown as a kind of ?living fence?
throughout Africa, where parts of the trees are also used in
traditional medicine. According to a Biodiesel Agricultural
Association survey, more than 1 mm jatropha trees are now growing in
Malawi.?

?But that is just the beginning. Ibrahim's organisation is encouraging
rural communities to plant the trees on all marginal land, where other
crops cannot survive. He expects the area of Malawi planted with
jatropha to increase over the coming year to cover an estimated area
of more than 200,000 hectares.?
