Question ID: 440643
How many people are trained in CPR every year in the United States? A
breakdown of healthcare professionals(nurses, MD's) and non-healthcare
professionals (office workers, babysitters) would be appreciated.
Please provide sources of your information. Will take data as far back
as 2002-2003.

It was fairly easy to find a page quoting an article from
the Associated Press in the Wall Street Journal, 11/29,
which noted that the American Heart Association recommended
that, among other suggested changes,

"The number of Americans trained in CPR annually increase
from about 9 million to 20 million"
http://www.californiahealthline.org/index.cfm?Action=dspItem&itemID=117098&ClassCD=CL117

In other words, 9 million Americans are currently trained
every year (and that number tends to increase), but the AHA
would prefer that number to be increased to 20 million.

As for finding a breakdown by occupation or profession,
my searches showed no such document to be found. A search,
for example, which includes some of the obvious professions
you mentioned, and which might produce a chart on the nature
you're seeking, turns up nothing useful:

"trained OR certified in CPR" doctors OR MDs nurses "office workers"

As you can see, this tailored search returns only 11 results,
none of which is useful.

Perhaps you'd consider lowering the question price to suit
what I was able to find for you. To that end, I won't post
this as an answer until I hear back from you, since posting
an answer would prevent you from being able to change the
price.

Or, perhaps another researcher will have access to databases
which are not available to me.

You can post a Clarification to let your wishes be known.
A user's guide on this topic is on skermit-ga's site, here:

If you scroll up a bit, you'll also see a link to tell you
how to change the question price.

Thanks very much for confirming my offer. I'll repost
what I found here, for the sake of future readers.

I'm glad I was able to resolve part of your question, and
wish I had been able to locate the type of breakdown you
were seeking, by occupation, but not everything is yet on
the internet.
