Hi There,

I have an interesting question about a recent TV series or Movie
release where the show or movie has failed to meet expectations ? or
where it as a result was withdrawn from the air.
The first thing I?m looking for is hard proof showing that the TV
series or movie was a major flop. I guess the list is long so please
follow the following criteria:

1.	A larger production
2.	IN the U.S.
3.	A recent production (max 6-7 years old)

The second part to my question (additional bonus)
I then need to know how the TV series or movies were tested before
production. I am (I know this is a hard one so this is not a must)
looking for cases where the rest results clearly were favourable and
showed that people would be interested in watching the TV series or
movie.

The third (and most difficult part of the question) (extra bonus) is.
I would like to get hold of someone which can help me to get hold of a
copy of the trailer or pilot to the TV series / movie which was used
to test the concept.

I am willing to pay US$10.00 for the first category of good answers,
and additional $15 for the second question and an additional $15 for
the third answer, which covers what I need, and will tip well for
exceptional answers.

I hope you have fun with this.

Aaron.

I offer these thoughts in response to your query (I'll break them down
by tv and movie):

TV shows are notoriously hit and miss - has there ever been a
television series where the producers said this is guaranteed not to
miss?

I don't think so.

Every year 20 or so new shows (network tv - ABC/CBS/NBC/FOX) are
thrown before the populace and perhaps 3 or 4 survive.

I think network execs hope and pray that their choices are correct.

They commission a script, watch a pilot and then commission 13 or 26
shows based on their instinct.

By the way, "Seinfeld" was almost cancelled after it's first year.
"Cheers" was way at the bottom of the ratings after its first year.

Are there disappointments? Sure. Are there flops? Disputable.

Take Martha Stewart's The Apprentice - Admittedly high expectations
ensued with Martha's release from prison and taking The Donald's
role...but then again, the show was slotted opposite "Lost".

Was this a flop? Or just a gamble that didn't work out?

Movies (for the most part) are greenlighted based on very simple
information: who's the star(s) involved and what's their opening
power/who's the director/who's the screenwriter/is this a "summer"
blockbuster/is this a sequel/what's the budget/what's the return look
like?

Movies, once they are being made, there is no stopping them - the
studio needs to see some product - for better or worse.

Have there been movie flops? Sure: Ishtar, Heaven's Gate, The Hulk...

The point is, is that by the time you realize that you have a stinker
on your hands, you still have to release it.

This probably doesn't answer your question but feel free to comment.

Have a good day.
