NO. The MacBook Pro would be incompatible with this processor. Apple has designed the entire architecture of this portable around the Intel Duo processor, and because the AMD Turion runs at a higher voltage, as well as uses a slightly different grounding design the socket on the motherboard of the Macbook Pro would not handle the Turion correctly. Even if installed the Macbook Pro would not be able to elimate the heat produced by the Turion causing internal stress on the components found in the Macbook. The only possibilty that would truly be succesful for getting this processor into the macbook pro, is eliminating all the internal components shipped in the macbook pro and simple use it as a notebook case and build a computer around the Turion processor to be housed inside of it, this would be way to much of a hassle for the added performance gained by AMD's notebook processor. The new Intel Imacs have been found to accept different speed intel duo processors. One can assume that the Macbook pros will be able to handle a processor swap of this sort as well. (for instance you could upgrade the 1.67 macbook pro intel duo chip to the 1.8 version) but in answer to your question you cannot put the Turion in a macbook pro. Thanks for the great answer Ted. I'm a little disappointed that I can't trick out my MacBook. Still, it is pretty sweet without the help. |
