I have a pop3 account which is linked to a web mail. I am running Windows XP and use MS Outlook for pop3. For some strange reasons, I got duplicate emails from some of the senders in Outlook, but not in Web Mail. Why? | |

Hi, do you have problem with disconnecting to the mail servers or internet ? MS Outlook, or any other mail client delete or/and mark the mail that he download only when he finish downloading all of them, you got dubble mails becuase your client didnt finish download all the new mails, if you have problem with dubble mail only in the outlook you probably have problem with you connection to the internet or to the mail server, to fix that you need to check what is the problem, if the problem is: 1. modem disconnection problem: call your ISP and ask for "RasCheck" to find a problem in your modem connection 2. server connection problem: it can be pasible that your mail server is crashed and up crashed and up, i'll suggest to send a mail to the mail operator and ask him about this type of problem. Good Luck, Bar |

Make sure that you didn't set the 'Keep email on server' option. This way, everytime you check your POP3, you will get multiple result. |

The help document from Microsoft may help. It is about a corrupted index file that they give instructions for fixing. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q314578 There are other documents about duplicate messages, but, they typically revolve around having more than one mail account configured, which does not appear relevant to your case. |

Hi. Are you accessing pop3 mail account from two diferent desktops using MS Outlook? If you are accessing same pop3 mail account from two different desktops using MS Outlook, then MS Outlook show more than one copies of email. |

Sometimes when we setup filters on incoming mail. If we have say two rules to filter messages to a particular folder. We get two copies. Example rule1 subject contains "hello" move to folder H rule2 subject contains "hi" move to folder H You get a mail with subject "hi hello" You may end up with two copies in folder H |

kc_at_work, I wish you were having better luck. This was the most relevant TechNote that I could find for Outlook... note that it is for Outlook 2002. While I hope it helps, I find it hard to believe emptying the trash is causing your trouble, as this note will suggest. However, it will give you an overview of what is happening in "Outlook's Mind" when you download your mail. Good Luck. Here is the link: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q292249 |

It is possible that you are using fast user switching(Start and L). This can not properly close down any ports open that Outlook has, and can duplicate e-mail. |
