Is Service Pack 2 for windows xp required in order to run visual basic.net 2003

I have found that sp2 is required for vilual basic express

No, SP2 is not required to run VB.net 2003.

I have a virtual PC with VB.net unstalled and it is only at SP1. This
was deliberate as I needed the security elements that XP2 plays with
left un touched.
