I have the job of producing French subtitles for an indie feature film in American English. Question: What translation service providers are adept and experienced at translating American English idiomatic movie dialog into French? What should I expect to have to pay? Background Information: The budget is tight. This job shades more to the translation of popular literature than translating business or legal documents. The movie runs a bit under two hours, the as-shot script is 103 pages. Of course only the dialog needs be translated. A responsive answer will identify two or more firms or individuals with specific experience in translating American English to French for movie subtitles, with credits. It will include pricing estimates (+-50%, either from the translator or your own supported calculation based on information from the translator). We're not expecting any firm price commitments, just bugetary guidance and pointers to providers who can do the job efficiently and well. |

This is outside my areas of expertise, but my first thought is that the ideal company or person for such a job might be Canadian. Many Canadians are equally fluent in French and in English. |

Hi, i'm french and my girlfriend too. She is studying (5th year) linguistics specialized in translation technics with a minor in 20th american litterature at the Sorbonne at paris, a famous french university. She already did professional translations. It's hard to estimate precisely this work because you don't provides enough information about quantity so she asks a thousand dollars for it. I think it's the best quality/price you can find. Professional quality because of her studies and because french is her mothertongue, best price because of an individual work. Note the fact that canadian-french differs from france-french. contact me of give me our adress for more details. |
