I don't think this is at all uncommon. I used to date a man who was so moved by classical music that he often wept copiously. I found this to be endearing, and a sign of great sensitivity. I can see that it might be a problem if elevator music brought a person to tears, but I see nothing wrong in weeping at a concert or when listening to recorded music in a private setting. I admire people who have such depth of feeling. |

Toward the end of the movie "Philadelphia" Tom Hanks character "Andrew Beckett", coming to terms with all that haunts him (if you haven't seen the movie I don't want to give it away), puts on some classical music and as the music reaches a dramatic crescendo he begins to weep uncontrollably. At first one thinks that he is having an emotional meltdown because of all the things going on in his life but eventually it becomes obvious that he is merely celebrating the miraculous perfection and absolute beauty of the piece he was hearing and through it, he was in awe of life. This scene brilliantly epitomized his feelings in a way that no other act could have done with such accuracy. What you hear is a unique language that others are incapable of receiving, much less interpreting. No, there's nothing wrong with you my friend. There's something wrong with "everyone else". Not macho, but very common. Some actors use music to induce tears, either by listening or replaying it in their head. Personally, though I adore some classic music it doesn?t have that effect, and operatic singing disturbs me. But just a guitar chord, or a sound or a line can do it. Even daft things like Barb Strident ?I (y)am a woman in love, and I?ll do anything to get you into my world? ----- crying now! Best |

I've noticed that some chords and chord changes can get me choked up. I recently discovered the song Nightswimming by REM and it does this to me. I imagine that people that subscribe to the notion of chakras would say that certain tones resonate with certain chakras, causing these effects. |

Ansmepls, I can sympathise. The Sheik from Scrubby Creek gets me every time. http://www.geocities.com/reg_lindsay/PAGES/chadmorgan.html Phil |
