On Goog Answers there have been electronic questions from the States.
If you guys boyo62, gopman, alan7002 (and any others) are ?New
Worlders?, from which mail order companies do you get your components,
and who do you recommend. How do you rate Digikey for instance?
Canadian, OZ and NZ comments might be useful too.

And of course I invite a researcher to ?clean up? as long as they
don?t squander my $2.

I buy most of my components from Digikey. They have a huge variety of
parts and great service. They aren't cheap, however. PartsExpress.com
has some specialty parts which sometimes come in handy. I used to go
to a lot of hamfests (amateur radio flea markets) for parts - back
when they were more popular.

Agree, Digikey has a great selection but higher prices. Parts search
on their website is the best.

Mouser is definitely less expensive with a slightly different
selection of components than Digikey (particularly IC's). They package
everything in Ziploc bags which is quite handy.

That said, Digikey carries certain integrated circuits which Mouser
doesn't, and I am thinking of the Atmel AVR's specifically here.
Consequently about 2/3 of my orders are Digikey, 1/3 Mouser.

Newark one is also pretty good.

I bought a few hundred thousand parts from a company closing the
doors....mostly resistors/capacitors/diodes/chips/odds/ends....the
small parts that you always need at 8 PM due to a design modification.
You might keep an eye open for such an opportunity.
