old cat has personality change and cloudy eyes:
My 15 year old cat which has always been very sociable and had clear
green eyes has changed during the last few months.

It now prefers to sleep by itself on the floor.
Its eyes *seem* to have a pale white cloudy swirly appearance.
When I look deep into the eyes I no longer feel the connection I once
perceived with the little one inside.

It still eats and drinks OK.

Question:
I know my cat is getting old but is this a sign of dementia or eye disease or
just plain old age?

Hi Pink.
yes, grooming and coordination is fine. But the cataracts condition
is plausible. Thank you.

My household has been graced by many elderly cats. At the moment, we
have one who is 19 years old and another who is 16.

Cataracts are quite common in older cats, and this condition can give
a cloudy appearance to the eyes. The change in sociability that you
mention troubles me more than the cloudy eyes. Does the cat still
groom herself normally? When she moves, does her motor control seem
normal? A change in sociability that is accompanied by poor grooming
and/or motor control difficulties sometimes indicates neurological
problems.
