Why my wireless peer-to peer connection is breaking down all the time? I have a wireless connection between my home PC (3com USB) and my Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop, with Intel Pro wireless 2200 BG. Both are Windows XP. I have configured the wireless network connection (windows XP wizard) and configured the IP manually (no DHCP). The PC is the server, it is sharing the broadband connection and it works fine. The only problem is that sometimes (with no apparent reason) the connection gets unstable and gets down and up all the time. The signal strenght is Excelent... It is annoying because I have to wait 10 seconds until the connection adjust the IP settings again, so I can go on browsing...for two more minutes until the connection breaks again... Now it is working perfectly. But I know it will get unstable in some hours... What is the solution for that problem? |

You may have some interference going on. How many walls separate the two machines? If you're running 802.11G, other 24Ghz devices can cause interference with the signal. Check for microwaves, cordless phones, etc. Also, are both devices on the same channel? Try changing to one of the three non-overlapping channels (1, 6, 11). -JtB |

It is 802.11G. There is no cordless phone nearby. My cordless phone is an old 900Mhz. The neighbor has a wireless network also, but the signal is too low. Sometimes the "interference" happens at 1 am, so it shouldnt be a microwave. There is only one wall between the two machines, and the distance is no more than 6 meters. (20ft) I am using channel 11 already. |

It was the signal. Although the reception was good at the laptop, at the server it was very low. The problem happened when the door was closed. Now I only have to leave it open all the time. Thanks. |

Glad you found the problem! Interference is a nasty thing and seems to crop up at the least expected times. -JtB |
