I live in Ireland and have a friend who wants to start to make Wet Suits to order. We are looking for a sewing machiene for wet suits. Preferable for up to 10 ml. Don't know anything about makes and models. Looking for something inexpensive or used. Guess we could have it shipped from the US. |

It appears that wetsuits can be made from standard sewing machines, using special needles. However, regular production of wetsuits would be more efficient using industrial sewing machines. These machines are readily available on your side of the pond. Included below are web sites that should help you track down the right equipment. Company Sites Sailrite Enterprises <http://www.sailrite.com/> Wimbledon Sewing Machines -mentions wetsuit needle <http://www.wimsew.com/acatalog/wimsew_catalog_Mauser_Machines_120.html> Other Sites: Neoprene (material used for wetsuits) -this site indicates that sewing neoprene is difficult with regular sewing machines - recommends a type of machince called "mauser." <http://www.justmakeit.com/fabrics/marine/neoprene.html> Site listing used Mausers for sale (on your side of the pond) <http://www.sewingmachinery.com/used/usc-overlock.html> Used Industrial Sewing Machine Mart Site (UK, Ireland, and Eur) <http://members.tripod.com/~cthompsonmcs/> Stitching of wetsuits (scroll to stitching section) Dive International Publishing <http://www.ukdiving.co.uk/ukdiving/equipment_tests/t498/> Google keywords: "sewing machines" wetsuit wetsuit sewing machine sewing machine neoprene mauser sewing machine Okay, I'm running out of time here. I hope this information is helpful and leads to a successful venture for you and your friend. Please submit a clarification request if you need additional info. Thanks, rapidreference-ga |
