my friend's partner claims my friend as a dependent (we live in
Missouri). My friend was over-paid by the school system by about 300
bucks in Novemeber of this year. The school wants her to just keep the
money and let them pay her less next pay-period to make up for it. My
friend is afraid that this extra 300-400 dollars will mean she makes
too much money for her partner to be able to claim her as a dependent.
She doesn't want to explain this to the school if she doesn't have to
because we are in MO, and she's worried that the nature of her
relationship with a same-sex partner may cause trouble. What is the
limit of money she can earn this tax year that will still allow her
partner to claim her? Please answer quickly if possible, we want to
settle this before Wednesday, in case she does have to contact the
school.
