I recently wrote a term paper for a regional security class regarding this issue. There are many different sides to their relationship, but what I focused on was the way Taiwan is creating tension between democratic nations like Japan and the US, and has strained relations. Even the war on terror has affected the relationship between the US and China over what China offers as a "quid pro quo" regarding requested policy shift from the US towards the island. I have lots of essays about this topic if you are interested, and I can give you a copy of my term paper. |
