Equality of opportunity is a 'weasel term' for describing favouring unequals to compensate for perceived disabilities. Equality as a condition is a statement of fact. Example: Fred is 5'10" tall, Joe is 6" tall - who is the tallest - obviously Fred as he was malnourished as a kid. Personally I favour Aristotle's prescription: 'Treat equals equally, unequals unequally, with due regard to the relevant difference' |
