Question ID: 442467
I'm getting a T1 line 24 chan and do not have a clue what equipment I
need, routers, etc?

The phone company says that they provide the equipment but I think
this means the equipment to get the line working.. Not routers, and
other equipment that I need.

My questions?

1) I need to share the connection on 4-6 pc's what do I need?
2) How will the T1 line hook up to the PC, routers, etc? In details please?
3) Do most T1 (Telco) provide internet access or is this just the line charges?
4) How do you configure and setup all PC's to use the T1 line? Most important!!

Ok..

To help explain this in more details..

I have an office just built empty with 3-4 workstations all are wired
with one ethernet line, and a phone line (Phone line can have 6
numbers on each line)
This is wired into a small room (Closet) in which all the wires can be
joined or made to work.

When this T1 line is installed will it be the same as 24 telephone
lines? For example as say having 24 residential telephone lines in a
network interface..

So one line can be a telephone number 555-1212 and the next line can
be 555-1213 and so on. Then next to it will be a line for data. So
each line will carryt 64K of speed. So when they tie the lines
together say they tie 3 together it will be 192K line. Is this how it
works?

When we use a router does the router actualy connect to the net or do
we need to have one server / shared computer that will hook all others
together?

Does anyone have any pictures of a t1 installed or how this is all
done for a dumb persons stand point?

Thank you all again.
Jody

You need to ask the telephone company if they are including a router.
If so you will need to connect the router into an "Ethernet switch".
You can then run cable from your pc's to the ethernet switch. The
cable you will use is called CAT5. If your office is not wired with
CAT5 cable you may need to have someone do that for you as well.

That is an extremely complicated, loaded question. You will need a
phone system, router, and switch. And you'll probably need someone to
set up the router for you. When the phone company says they will
provide the equipment, they may provide all the phone stuff, in which
you'd only need actual phones. I've seen that in many cases.
However, for the Internet access, the T1 will terminate at a demarc,
you'll run a crossover network cable from the demarc to the router,
then you'll run another cable from the router to the switch. Then all
the computers will run their network cable into the switch. Probably
into the wall and over the ceiling panels, etc before it gets to the
switch, but the switch distributes the "Internet" as you call it.
You'll need to talk to a network admin (like myself) in person and
have them come on site to see how to configure everything and to
configure your router. Check out Black Box (www.blackbox.com) they do
network consulting nationwide, I've used them in the past and they are
pretty good.
