I would like a specific number of pregnant women in the workforce.
Currently the figures I have I obtained are not exact and calculated
through some numbers provide by the US Census Bureau. I used the 10.4%
pregnancy rate for women of the age of 15-44
(http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/pressroom/04facts/pregestimates.htm) and
multiplied it by the number of working women between the ages of 16-44
(http://www.bls.gov/cps/wlf-tables1.pdf). The number that I came up
with was 4,115,488 pregnancies in the workforce for the year 2000.
Can you help me use more accurate numbers (a specific study, more up
to date, a pregnancy rate for working women?). Thank you.

Some women are pregnent 3 years out of the 29 years they are age 15 to
44. That would be 5 conseptions if the average duration of pregnacy is
7 months, including still born and abortions. That may be a good world
average; my guess is less than 10.4% for USA and most first world
countries. The 40 million women in the workforce, may include some who
worked only part of 2002, so 4 million women preganent in the work
force is a good high end estimate. 3.5 million may be a good low end
estimate. Please yell at me if I'm over looking an important part of
the analysis. Neil

Hi Neil,

I'm looking for more specific numbers, maybe from an actual study on
pregnancy in the workforce that sites a specific pregnancy or birth
rate for women in the workforce.

Thanks,

Grant
