Dear Esher,

Nice to see you back on GA.

These four large tournaments are held in the United States:

"In 2005, the WORLD OPEN, in most years the world's largest open chess
tournament since its beginning in 1973, was held over the July 4th
weekend at Wyndham Hotel at Franklin Plaza, Philadelphia. See our
World Open website with results and games from 1998-2005. Over 1500
games may be viewed or downloaded there! However, we had a problem
displaying the 2005 games. The 2006 World Open will be held at the
Wyndham Hotel in downtown Philadelphia June 30-July 4, July 1-4, July
2-4 or June 28-July 4, with 9 rounds and the biggest prizes ever:
$500,000 projected, $300,000 minimum guaranteed!

The $100,000 guaranteed Chicago Open was held May 27-30, 28-30, or
29-30, 2005, at the Doubletree Hotel (formerly the Hyatt Regency), in
Oak Brook, IL. Next year's Chicago Open is scheduled for May 25-28,
26-28 or 27-28 at the same location, a 6 round Swiss with projected
prizes $150,000 based on 800 paid entries and $100,000 minimum
guaranteed. NOTE DATE CHANGE for the 2006 event- there will be no
play on Monday, Memorial Day.

The 2005 North American Open, held at Bally's Las Vegas December
26-29, drew a new high of 713 entries. The 2006 event will be 7
rounds, Dec 26-29 at Bally's, with alternate schedule options Dec
27-29 or 28-29. This event is Dec 26-29 each year, regardless of the
days of the week those dates are.

The 2005 Foxwoods Open was held March 23-27 at the World's largest
casino, in the woods of Connecticut. The 2006 Foxwoods Open will be
April 12-16 (Open Section), April 13-16 or 14-16 (lower sections).
The Open Section is 9 rounds (GM & IM norms possible), the lower
sections 7 rounds."
