Question ID: 442717
I need to put together a solution for my baby monitoring.

I have listed below the equipment that I already have, and need to get
the list of products that I will need to buy which will be compatible
together to achieve the requirements listed below.

Requirements:

1. Camera should have nightvision with LEDs

2. Camera should definitely have a wired option - eithernet, USB
(wired), 1394, or composite video (less desirable due to other
requirements because this will require purchase of a capture card).
Camera can also have a WiFi capability but it wont be used.

3. Audio should be supported throughout the solution: realtime
monitoring (PC, Pocket PC),

4. The video/audio feed should be recordable to the PC harddrive.

5. I should be able to use my PC (or laptop) to view recorded feeds.

6. I should be able to use a computer or a plain monitor (with inputs:
TVRF, Composite or VGA) to view video/audio in realtime. This might
require a non-digital camera, or a decoder if camera is digital. (a
decoder would be part of additional cost subject to cap).

7. I should be able to use a Pocket PC (WM2003 SE, Pocket PC 2002,
WM2003SE with WMP10, WM5 with WMP10) to view real-time video/audio
feed of the camera. Pocket pc has WiFi. This should work from outside
of firewall provided that proper ports are opened on router. The
website of the software vendor must state explicitly that software
supports one of these pocket pc versions and that it supports both
video and audio.

Existing equipment that can be utilized in the solution (not part of cost cap)
1. I already have a Windows server machine that is always on, it can
be used in the solution. The recording software must run on windows
XP/2003.
2. I have a spare monitor with TVRF, Video composite and VGA inputs to
use for monitoring.
3. Ethernet/Wireless router
4. Pocket PCs (with aforementioned operating systems - need to be
compatible with at least one of them).

Whatever else is needed to implement this should be considered part of
the solution cost.

Additional Cost CAP:

The total cost of the additional equipment/software should be within $300.00
I am thinking this will require:

* camera with nighvision leds
* monitoring/recording software for PC
* possibly special monitoring software for Pocket PC (if default WMP
cannot be pointed at a streaming URL)
* possibly a capture card if Camera is not digital, but then software
must support capturing.
* any other software that's necessary to complete requirements.

Experts,
I appreciate the comments,
but I am still interested in the solid solution less of a hack and
more of a designated product for this need.
-thanks

Dear mobigital,
It is very complicated, but it san be done
requirements: 1, one pc aways on
2, Pocket PC which have wifi and have network access
              3, camera with nighvision leds
              4, two softwares,(1)"CamtasiaStudio" (2)"Remote Desktop" (for ppc
steps,1,the CamtasiaStudio can do live monitoing and recording,
2, use Remote Desktop to access your PC ( Remote Desktop can

Just FYI. All digital cameras that use CCD sensors (camcorders, still
cameras, web cameras, cell phone cameras) can see infrared light. If
you have a camera already you can get something like this:
http://www.surveillance-spy-cameras.com/infrared-illuminator.htm
This will work with B&W or color cameras.

Thanks,
James Glenn
