Question ID: 442788
I need a list of civil aviation airplane makes and models.
I am not interested in commercial aircraft like boeing. Nothing
larger than two engines.
I am not interested in ultralights.
I am interested in Light Sport Airplanes as well as all general
aviation planes. Seaplanes are good. Gliders are good.
I need each plane to be on its own line so I can import it into an
excel spreadsheet easily.

Example of what final list should look like:

Cessna 172
Cessna 182
Cirrus SR22
Mooney SuperSonicBlaster 5000 (I don't think this one really exists)

Thank you,

Jeff

I'm not sure who are the manufacturers of general aviation planes so I
can't be much help there. That's why I'm asking the question here. I
need someone who can figure that out without giving me the larger
commercial planes.

I would probably limit it to 8 seats and smaller if that helps.

I would also want the model name and not just the number. Example, I
don't know which Cessna Model number is the Skymaster, but I know they
have one and I need it on the list.

Jeff,

Just wanted to let you know that I don't think I can answer your
question, since there is so much abmiguity about makes, models,
numbers, etc.

I can only parse the list I have, but it clearly doesn't include all
of the familiar names of planes, but tends to stick with the more
formal model numbers.

Good luck, though.

The Cessna Skymaster, colloquially known as the Mixmaster, has 3 model numbers:

Military version: 0-2
Civilian: C-336, C-337

Still looking for the complete list.

Jeff --

Try the Mooney list again now. It's actually a good example of the
complexities of these lists:
* the basic Mooney model is the M20. Indeed the type certificate for
the airframe is linked at the end of this Wikipedia article:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mooney_M20
* over the years, Mooney has made models from the A-model to the
S-model, as you'll see on the type certificate revisions and the
Mooney Chronology page
* the alphabetic revisions to the airframe are structural changes in
size and in materials (the A-model was a wood wing and everything
after the B-model was all-metal). However, the marketing names were
different. The J-models were referred to as the 201 in the 1970s and
1980s because of their ability to fly 201 mph. Later they were called
the MSE.
* when the FAA tracks Mooneys, they appear as either M20P or M20T.
Why? Controllers want to know which are normally-aspirated (P) and
which are turbocharged (T) planes capable of going to flight levels:
http://flightaware.com/live/aircrafttype/M20P
* more recent name changes have highlighted performance changes in
engines and in avionics

I guess that if I were trying to keep it simple with Mooneys, I'd use
the letter designations that are on the type certificate.

Now for the disclaimers:
1. the Mooney chronology list doesn't include prototypes, like the
301 (which later became the TBM-700)
2. Al Mooney designed several other aircraft both before and after
Mooney Aircraft Co.:

Go to the aircraft database at http://www.risingup.com

There is an extensive GA list there.
