I understand that my high level of myopia (-8.5 d in both eyes)
creates a higher risk of retinal detachment: 1 in 20 over my lifetime.

I was wondering if there is any evidence to show that this risk would
be decreased if I receive LASIK or similar surgery? Studies showing
an increased risk, decreased risk, or no effect would be helpful.
Comments from a doctor who is knowledgeable about the subject may also
be helpful, but preferably not if that person is also trying to sell
the surgery - I am concerned about the conflict of interest. Thank
you!
