I am a system administrator in New Orleans. I am trying to help a
colleague at the Orleans Parish Juvenile Court. The court has a WANG
6000 computer system that was damaged in Hurricane Katrina. I am
trying to buy, borrow, or rent a working WANG 6000 system so that I
can help the court retreive court records from the damaged system and
migrate it to a PC database. I am doing this gratis, but I've had no
luck whatsoever locating a working WANG 6000 that I could borrow, buy,
or rent. That's the problem I need to solve. If you can assist, please
let me know. Thanks.
Jerry S.

Howdy Jerry,

Have you talked with the Mississippi based Cothern Computer Systems, Inc.?

If so, it would researchers to know whom you have contacted to date, so as
to not reproduce your work. Thanks!

I have not contacted anyone other than another colleague at the
Jefferson Parish Clerk of Courts. A WANG guru reportedly worked there
at one time, I was told he moved to California. That was the extent of
my research, other than to search eBay for a WANG 6000.

In my experience, fellow I.T. people can be of great assistance at times
such as this, and perhaps Cothern could donate the time needed for the
conversion of your colleague's data, or give you a lead to another Wang
6000 facility.

The East Baton Rouge Parish Clerk's office just called us.
Coincidently, they are in the process of doing WANG conversions. We
may have this solved. Will advise.
