First let me state that I'm not a qualified mechanic but do hold a
marine engine certificate. It gets me out of trouble AT SEA, where all
the gear and the workshops are just not available. And if a qualified
mechanic feels that my comments are a bit off, I welcome the
criticism.
All, if not most outboards have two adjustment screws. Mixture and
Idling. You have to know which is which. Find out and practice ON
LAND. No good learning when you are drifting to Africa, which can
happen in my neck of the woods.
A base setting of the mixture screw is two and a half to threew and a
half turns OUT from fully IN. From its previous setting, screw IN the
idling screw a bit, say one turn extra. start the motor. If it runs a
bit fast that better. If its too slow more IN with the idling screw.
Once its running that bit fast, by itself with no throttle, adjust the
mixture screw until it runs smooth, and still fast. then back off the
idling screw until it purrs to your satisfaction.
This is all on the proviso that the motor is in general good condition
with a clean fuel system. If you suspect faulty fuel, replace it,
including what is in the supply line. also another good tip is to
regularly treat your fuel with the product " FUEL SET", a green
additive. Its very good for both petrol and diesel.
Hope this has helped. |
