the tax law will allow a 12,000 gift per year from one family member
to another, correct?

If that person (the person giving the gift) is applying for state aid
in a medicare situation, can the state legally look at a recent gift
as a reason for denial of state aid?

state in question is IL - let me know if you need further clarrification. thanks!

Federal tax law on gifts and your state's requirements to qualify for
taxpayer funded care are independent of each other.
