Do you need to know every single monarch, or just ones from
better-known royal families, such as those of England, Russia,
Austria-Hungary, etc.? I ask because there are many tribal monarchies
without a written history that goes back that far.

Do you want to include monarchs who were not technically
"assassinated" but otherwise murdered (e.g., Nicholas II of Russia)?

Thank you - I only need the promenent monarch names who have been
assinated over the last 500 years. They need to be part of greater
Europe - Ie UK France, Germany etc.

Search strategy: consulted paper sources such World Almanac 2000,
Pocket Factfinder, and World Book Encyclopedia for the histories of
various royal dynasties. Research was supplemented by Google searches
of for each assassinated royal's name and date of death.

I hope this helps. Good luck with your research.

You might want to have a look at the site below:

http://www.s9.com/biography/

The Biographical Dictionary

Result of search for king AND assassi* revealed 7 assassinations of
monarchs in the past millenium or so:

Kingdom of Serbs, Croats, and Slovenes 1921-1929; dictator and king of
Yugoslavia 1929-1934; assassinated; son of Peter I _1888-1934

Childeric II French ruler; king of Austrasia 662-675; king of Burgundy
and Neustria 673-675; last Merovingian ruler to attempt to exert real
power; assassinated; son of Clovis II _649-675

Khosru II (also Khosrau II, Chosroes II) Sassanid Persian conqueror
and ruler; king of Persia 590-628; assassinated _5XX-628

Nadir Shah the Conqueror (Tahmasp Kuli Khan) Turkish conqueror and
Persian ruler; king of Persia 1736-1747; assassinated _1688-1747

Philip II (Philip of Macedon) Macedonian general and ruler; king of
Macedonia 359b-336b; defeated Athens at battle of Coronea 338b;

Xerxes I (Xerxes the Great; also Khsayarsha, Ahasuerus) Persian
conqueror and ruler; king of Persia 486b-465b; won battle of
Thermopylae 480b; lost battle of Salamis 480b; assassinated
_519b?-465b

This seems a rather small number but perhaps a more in-depth search
would reveal others.
