I've never smoked so I dunno. However, a friend of mine who quit used to worry that he might become addicted to not smoking. He really did! |

Why would intelligent, strong, aware people like my beloved husband and three beloved sisters be so gullible and easily manipulated so that they pay vast amounts of money to do something that most others find anti-social, revolting and stinking, that they know will irreparably damage their own health (and the health of their loved ones through passive smoking) and, eventually, kill them? If it can make them do all that, for 30+ years, then how on earth can they overcome it? |

I am actively cutting down with the goal being to quit. My biggest question is: "How can I quit smoking with no smoking urges?" OR "How can I quit smoking with no discomfort?" |

@Cynthia, if you find a solution please tell us. I find that if I try to quit, I become viciously irritable, my guts play up and I find concentration difficult. Also I feel 'mentally weak' - a bit like timidity On the plus side, food tastes a lot better, I get ravenously hungry, which is good, and physically a lot more energetic. |

I think the biggest question for them is why I want to quit smoking. People who have decided to quit smoking need to review their reason for quit smoking and only from there, they can proceed on with the quitting process determinedly. Ways to quit smoking is another big concern. Quit smoking will bring a lot of discomforts both physically (might cause severe headache, lose in appetite, lack of energy in carrying out daily activities)and psychologically (dependency on cigaratte. They might also question about what kind of social and family support they will be receiving while they are quitting smoking. Lastly, I think that if a person is really determined in quitting smoking, there will be no big question in their mind but only to proceed on with the quitting progress till cigarattes are totally out from their lives. |

What will be the hardest part of quitting? The answer is the first day. Second hardest is the second day. After about a week, it continues to get easier. I quit three times, but the first two times I did not resolve never to smoke again. The third time, in 1970, I quit to stay quit. Haven't had a cigarette since. I did drink scads of water; when full of water, I'd crunch a lot of ice. Substitute sex if you have a willing partner. Or run, or swim, or bike. Or do pushups. Nicotine patches & gum did not exist then. Maybe they help, or maybe they just make it where you don't have to smoke for the fix. I suggest using them only if you can't quit cold turkey. Advantages of quitting: your health improves; you save money; you get lower insurance rates; you don't look stupid; you don't annoy others. Whatever your age, quit smoking now! You won't regret it. |

When you know these facts, quitting is not that hard anymore. Smoking will damage blood vessels in the penis and will shorten the penis which ultimately lead to impotence. This is all real. Canada and Australia alread force "Smoking can lead to impotence" label on cigarette box. http://www.ash.org.uk/html/health/html/impotent.html http://www.givingupsmoking.co.uk/images/pressads/fingerlegspressad1.pdf http://www.givingupsmoking.co.uk/images/pressads/fingerlegspressad2.pdf http://www.givingupsmoking.co.uk/images/pressads/fingerlegspressad3.pdf Go to this site and watch the famous UK Fingerleg Commercial. http://anti-smoking-ads.blogspot.com/ Finally, go watch the movie "Thank you for smoking" and have some laugh. |
