I have just started a relationship with a woman 10years younger than
myself (im 42) She is 32 and has a 11 year old child and would like
more (which i dont have a problem with), we are both extremely
compatiable, in fact so much that i can see already see that i would
have no problems marrying her (she feels the same).

Having said that at this stage I really dont know if i should continue
it, its still early days so now would be the time to end it.

I really dont know if a 10 year differance is too much or not so im
looking for any coments anybody would like to make.

For any reseacher a short personal comment and also if you could
find as much infomation / links on the subject of age differances in
relationships of around 10years or so........basicaly anything
relavent.

Thanks

Marrying a woman 10 years younger is perfectly OK. Go for it!

I agree entirely, as a male with grown children, and hope her child does too.

My wife is almost 10 years older than I am, and it has never caused us
any problems.

In our family older women are perfectly acceptable.

However from a technical point of view, if she is 10 years younger,
then it sounds perfect.

Sad as it is (most) women age faster than men, so it is just evening things out.

My one caveat is the 11 year old child, but you don't seem worried
about him/her, so I take it that you rather like the sprog.

Go for it, if she were 20 years younger than you (and sexually
hyper-active) I would recommend caution, but at 31 she should have the
sharp corners knocked off, and at 42 you are young enough for a bit of
rejuvenation, but old enough to provide a stable nest.

I suggest a trial 'happy family' experiment first, just to check out
the three of you at domestic proximity.

Apart from that, go for it.

frde...

You said: "Sad as it is (most) women age faster than men, so it is

Thats not really true at all.

I was married to a 9 years younger man and he looked and acted 20
years older than me!!!

If you were 22 and she was 12, you might have a problem, unless you're
R.Kelly. 42 vs 32 does not seem to be too big a deal to me. It's
especially socially acceptable for a man to be with a moderately
younger woman, though the reverse has also become quite socially
acceptable.

@Steph

Better luck next time round

.. I did cover my generalization with 'most'

I am pleased to have met an exception to the rule
... keep it up would be inappropriate, or perhaps not ...

While I'm not that keen on religion, the concept of Redkat's first
christening Fest/Fiasco/Fiesta is diverting

Darn, the microwave rang. Always happens when thinking ...

I agree with frde...exactly!

It's unanimous -- and it's safe to say: I bet no one will come in here
and say that a 10 year age difference (at your ages of 32 and 42) --is
enough to make a difference of any kind.

? My Mom and Dad were 13 years apart.

? I was older than my boyfriend by 11 years. In the beginning was 24,
I was 35. We were together till he was 30. He was a little young at
the start but he mellowed quite nicely.

"The United States Census Bureau's March 2000 statistics show some
800,000 unmarried American couples are more than five years divergent
in age, and 7 in 100 of women married more than once have a husband
six or more years younger than they."
from Wikipedia article Age disparity in sexual relationships
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Age_disparity_in_sexual_relationships

However, if I may be so bold, that you can go from
"...we are both extremely compatiable, in fact so much that i can see
already see that i wouldhave no problems marrying her (she feels the
same)."
to
"...at this stage I really dont know if i should continue
it, its still early days so now would be the time to end it."
in the space of two sentences seems far more important than any disparity in ages.
I think perhaps you should consider what it is that is prompting such
ambivalence, I suspect that more than age is at work.

Good point Hardtofind

My take is that he is thinking about damage limitation

- back off before someone gets hurt

Provided domesticity works, then the downside should be irrelevant
- my worry would be 'the brat from hell' syndrome

About two generations ago, an around 10 years older man was the
standard. Today, there seems to be no standard.

I don't see any problem at all, specially because you're both in the
same segments of maturity level -- interests and views of life in the
thirties and fourties are quite compatible; also her long-time
motherhood has probably make even more mature than others of her same
age. If you were 32 and she 22, it would be OK too, but maybe it could
deserve a bit more thinking just in case, but not at your ages.

What does deserve some deeper thinking is to clearly understand the
affective commitment that her motherhood and the concrete person of
the child imply. You'll have to be ready to *love* the kid too, not
only *accept* him/her.

i dont find any problem in marring a lady 10 years younger than u.
actually no age difference should matter when it comes to love.

but dont jus go and get married cause u want to .... think about the
child first. make sure you love the child twice as much as you love
the lady we dont wanna see another eminem in the making

to start off with you all 3 can start living as a family for a while
see how things work out, see if u can handle a family and also
understand the kid

if all the above said is kool then GET MARRIED DUDE
