Dear ldmorgan:
Thank you for your question. I have found one direct manufacturer of
the product you have described. It is 21 oz. aluminum "see-thru"
tankard. There is a picture of the product here:
http://www.classic-medallics.com/cm_itemdetail.asp?cat_id=3&id=116
The product is available in volume quantities at $10.90 per mug in
volumes greater than 120 units.
You may verify that they are a direct manufacturer, and not a
reseller:
"Classic Medallic Inc. is a third generation family business spanning
over 60 years of product leadership in manufacturing a wide variety of
awards and gifts."

To order the above product, go to the product description page, here:

AnubisEngraving.com also offers an aluminum tankard such as the one
you have described, here:

Unfortunately, they are a reseller. I have emailed them for
information about their supplier. I will post a clarification once
they reply.
Google Search Terms Used:
"aluminum mugs" OR "aluminum steins" OR " aluminum tankards"

Dear ldmorgan:
After further research, I thought I would point out that the tankard
provided in the answer is identical to the ones offered for resale in
these following locations:
http://www.sign-inn.com/engraving/engraving-eg.html
http://www.connectsports.com/silverplate2.htm
http://www.adcalendar.com/tankards.htm
http://www.greekclothing.com/greekclothing/frat/products/glass/glassware3.html
http://www.azact.com/v4/products/gifts/scan/silverplatepewter/index.asp
The prices listed on the above sites are all approximately 200% the
price listed by Classic Medallics Inc, which makes me more confident
that I have provided you with the correct manufacturer.
Please let me know if you need any clarifications. I would be more
than happy to assist you further.

Blader:
I appreciate the detail and depth associated with your answer. Very
thorough.
However, I checked Medallics entire products category, and did not
find a lidded aluminum tankard anywhere. Lots of glass, strainless,
and plastic, but no lidded aluminum. The "Options" button associated
with the lidless aluminum tankard cited turned out to be only a list
of price/quantity options.
Did you actually confirm that the company actually manufactures
aluminum tankards, entire, as opposed to (for example)importing a
basic tankard and then embellishing it as a gift item?
Medallics product list includes many diverse items, from glass
drinking glasses to wood clocks to plastics, to cut stone (lapidary)
products. I think it unlikely that they do their own basic
manufacturing in so many different areas.
Their PR material seems to suggest that they make pewter ornaments to
be put on a wide variety of products, rather than making the products
themselves--pen sets, for example. And it also indicates that they do
silkscreening, printing, engraving, etc.
I have emailed the company for clarification on whether they actually
manufacture aluminum tankards inhouse, and whether they have more
versions than just the lidless one illustrated, but have not yet
received a reply.
Absent confirmation that they actually manufacture tankards inhouse,
and have lidded tankards available, I would have to consider the
question to be still open.
It's probably best to allow a little time for confirmation to come in
before proceeding.

Email has been received from Classic-Medallics indicating that they
import the aluminum tankard. They are a reseller. Lidded tankard is
not available. Question remains unanswered and will be reposted.
